Firefox is very slow in Ubuntu / Linux
It’s been an issue for me for a long time. Firefox, even the latest version was lagging, slow. Changing between tabs was very long, even 3-5 seconds even if I had two tabs only (!). Scrolling was not smooth and using it was painful.
It did not happen always, but mostly.
I use Firefox for debugging sites with Firebug so this issue was pretty annoying, especially on the 16GB RAM / quad-core CPU machine.
Recently I have noticed that Firefox after close keeps running as a ZOMBIE process.
I “killed” ZOMBIE process(es) with this command:
1 |
kill -HUP $(ps -A -ostat,ppid | grep -e '[zZ]'| awk '{ print $2 }') |
Then I restarted Firefox. From now, Firefox was extremely fast and responsive whole session.
Unfortunately after machine reboot issue is back again.
I don’t know what is the cause but it’s a pretty nice workaround.
My environment workaround is working with:
Ubuntu 14.10
Gnome-Shell 3.14
Firefox 39.0
Does that work for you?
